Baby Physical Development in 10-Week-Olds
While your baby's coordination is starting to improve, he still manages to bonk himself in the head with the rattle pretty much daily. Just tell everyone he gets it from the other side of the family. (And avoid any public dancing situations that might give away the truth that you're the one who's really rhythmically challenged.)
What You're Thinking: "Wow, look at that kid reach and grasp! Ow, not my hair!"
Baby Milestones
- At this point in baby's physical development, he is attuned to every expression you make and will try to copy you. He'll even "talk back" (in a nice way) by cooing to you.
- Play "copycat" with your baby. Make a big smile or stick out your tongue, then wait a minute or two for her to copy you. Enjoy this innocent mimicking, because in a few years, the not-so-innocent mimicking probably won't give you as much joy.
- Stimulate baby's senses by turning on your favorite music and taking him dancing. Hold him in your arms and sway softly with the music. (You two could totally compete on Dancing with the Stars!)
- Your baby might be rolling from back to side and side to back at this point. Take precautions not to leave him alone on a changing table or bed. He probably won't roll all the way over for a month or so yet, but better safe than sorry.
Mommy Milestones
- You've slowed down with the paparazzi-esque picture-taking frenzy, and even your baby looked at you like, "Wait, no camera this hour?"
- You only used hand sanitizer 20 times today—just a week ago it was 50 times a day.
- You are getting used to saying, "My son/daughter ..." but only because you're saying it at every opportunity.
- You no longer feel like an animal taking part in a science experiment when you're pumping breast milk.
Home Front
If you haven't started already, we can't think of a better time to indulge yourself and your baby in the time-honored tradition of story time. If you're not sure where to start, we've got some baby books that go beyond Goodnight Moon and enough of them to keep you stocked up until well past the before-you-know-it days of "Moooom, one more story, please!" All babies grow and develop at different rates. So please don't compare your kid with so-and-so's baby from across the street—you'll just drive yourself nuts. If you have any concerns, bring them up with your pediatrician at your baby's next checkup.

So scary... My son can already roll over and back! Plus he loves to side sleep and ends up on his tummy. Freaks me out all the time....
