Biography

Marilyn Roth teaches at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, where she is the chair of the piano department in the division of preparatory and continuing education. She developed and taught the sight-reading for pianists course at the NEC Prep and has codirected, with A. Ramón Rivera, the summer school's piano pedagogy intensive course. In the spring of 2006 she directed a student exchange between NEC Prep piano students and piano students from the Margareten Musikschule in Vienna, Austria.

Ms. Roth has also done extensive work in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, studying with Lisa Parker, Marta Sanchez and John Colman. She did her pedagogy studies with Jean Stackhouse, who in 1999 and 2002 invited Ms. Roth to be a member of the Committee on Theories and Learning of the World Piano Pedagogy Conference. Ms. Roth has given solo and chamber music performances in Pittsburgh, Boston and the New England area. Her orchestral debut was with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Ms. Roth is the mother of two adult children, both of whom studied at the NEC Prep during their elementary and high school years. Her daughter is a professional violinist who graduated from the New England Conservatory and is currently a member of the Oregon Symphony. Her son is a graduate of Brown University with a degree in history, and currently lives in Taipei, Taiwan.
