Creative Ways to Get Your Kids to Clean Up

You, too, can be that parent—the one with a clean house and adorable kids who happily chip in to keep it that way. OK, maybe not, exactly... But you can try these tips to get your kids to clean up without being asked a hundred times.

Role play. Cleaning is no fun, but hunting and gathering is a blast.

Do a 30-second cleanup.

Make cleaning a fun (OK, fun-ish) learning tool.

There's nothing wrong with a little bribe ... er, positive reinforcement.

Cut clutter. Less to clutter, less to clean.

Become an Evil Bag Lady.

Turn laundry into a game of hoops.

Label everything. If they know where to put it, there's a good (OK, better) chance that they'll actually put it away.

Have an in-and-out rule.

Buy your kids their own cleaning tools. They'll be much more likely to chip in when using their own broom or vacuum.
