I am a stay at home mommy of a 8 month old, I have a 15 year old step daughter, and have several at-home moms on my street with kids ranging from newborn to 13... ALOT of kids on this tight knit street.  My neighbors and I all got vaccinated, as well as their kids, my son, and my stepdaughter.... no one died... no one got hurt :)  My stepdaughter and I both had a fever for a day, but the little ones all seemed to do better than the adults.  I got it for my son because all I could think is... what if he catches H1N1 and something terrible happens, and I could have prevented it.  Go with your gut, and let your mommy-intuition guide you... not the opinions of others.

P.S. my stepdaughter's mom is preggers and due at the end of december and she got it, and had no side effects

I think that you should do research on it and talk to your dr. about it before you make any decisions, but I did get the vacc. and I got it for my children too. They say that it's even more mild than the regular flu, but the H1N1 spreads so fast and that's what they worry about the most. I know a few people that have the swine flu and are fine. I felt that it was better to get the vacc and than to get the flu at all, I couldn't put my kids in jepordy like that.  My dr. told me that we have to look at it like this... some people have allergic reactions to peanuts and shellfish and things like that, that not everyone in the world has, there's no way that someone in the world is not gonna have a reaction to this vacc. The H1N1 vacc is the same as the reg. flu vacc, but instead of influenza it has the swine flu injected into it. If you and your children have never had side effects to the flu shot, you'll prolly not have one to the h1n1 vacc. I hope that you talk to your dr. and make the right decision for you! There's soo much information on the internet too, I did 2 hrs of research on it before I decided to so make sure you use everything you have at your fingertips!!

I got my son vaccinated a couple of weeks ago. He has had absolutely no side effects so far. We mainly did it because we knew way too many kids that were dying from swine flu. A friend of my parents had a kid about a year older than my son and he got swine flu and died and had no underlying conditions. There was also a 14 year old girl in a town near where my parents lived who collapsed and died from it also. I just decided it wasn't worth not getting it. Just my opinion.

I plan on getting it for me and for my little one when they have them available to take b/c I suffer from narcolepsy which is a sleeping disorder and causes my body not to go through the whole REM cycle when I sleep so my immunity to most things isn't where it needs to be and my husband has type 2 diabetes and out little girl is under the age of 4 so we fit into the group that everyoen recommends to get one and I don't want to take any chances.

But also, it has been going around for a few months now and so far so good but I know that the flu season lasts until like March or something like that so I just keep up to date on the warning signs and where to take my little one depending on what hospital and what their procedures are on the swine flu.

so....back and forth on it but if it becomes available I'm getting it.

I took my kids 15,14 and4 to get theirs the other day and my sister in law took her 2 kids too. I couldnt get one because they were out of the adult vaccine but I plan to when they get more.
