if you hvaent seen them, please do a google image search, these dolls are soooo pretty. any little girl would love them.
i dont know why they haven't done this before, w/ all kinds of dolls. i'm white and i can say i've never considered buying my daughter an ethnic doll, mostly i thought i was b/c i wanted her dolls to look like her, but when i saw these barbies i was imediately drawn to them. i'm begining to think it was that the black dolls were not well done in the past, they really just looked like the white barbie with a color i have never seen on any human. i never really noticed how poorly done they were until i saw these new barbie.
they really looked like they were done in black face, an old theatrical way of painting white people to look like the old sterotypical view of black people.
it's not just barbies that looked like that either, cabbage patch kids, baby alive, ect, once you try to buy one any darker than a latino the skin tone is really poorly done, and once again there is no other difference b/w them and the white baby dolls.
i'm so happy that some one finally woke up and made a barbie doll that actually LOOKS like a black woman. they even have little sister dolls, and they are also well done and very cute.

WOW! They are so pretty. I was a Barbie Girl for the longest. I played with them all through childhood and hope one day i have a little girl so we can play with them together. The black Barbies i use to have looked so different from me. They looked just like the white Barbie but a weird brown color. I'm Black but my skin color doesn't look like that. And even worse the black man Barbie named Steven looked nothing like the black men i knew.
I'm so glad that they finally came out with a better looking black Barbie. They need to make better looking white and hispanic Barbies as well because Teresa (the hispanic Barbie) looked NOTHING like a hispanic and half of my family is hispanic plus my BF is puerto rican and dominican and the women in his family are beautiful.
Well i see myself as the Barbie expert lol (hense the name lol) so im glad to see some change!
my little girl is definately getting one of these for xmas. even if you dont care or understand what these dolls do for teaching our kids not to judge based on color, you have to admit how pretty they are.
bratz tried to be ethnic but i think they just made the problem worse, all the bratz, what ever thier implied ethnicity, just looked like hookers. i just hope that they're arent just a pretty fashion doll, i hope they do the whole shabang, Dr.barbie, teacher barbie, ect.
this barbie is georgious. one day when i was watching the news they were doing a study on little girls and dolls. they would give the little girls (all ethnicitys) 2 dolls one black and one white and they would ask which one they thought was pretty and which one they would play with and most ofthe little girls picked the white doll.they also asked the kids why they didnt want to play with the black doll and they said because she was ugly. i thought that coming from a little black child somthing was wrong with that but looking back my mother never bought me diffrent colored dolls but i never knew why i couldnt get the little white one
