Marinated Filet Mignon

Submit Discuss

So what if you're a steak-and-potatoes eater? Now's the time to be! And while marinating your steak in lemon soda may sound strange, you should do it because it makes steak amazingly tender!

  • 2 filet mignon steaks, all fat and shiny membrane removed
  • 1 cup Hansen's lemon-lime soda
  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 teaspoons canola oil (if using cast-iron skillet)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

1 Combine all ingredients except salt and pepper in a resealable plastic bag; add steaks and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, turning bag several times.

2 Preheat a cast iron skillet or nonstick grill pan on medium-high until water "dances" on the surface.

3 Brush oil on surface of skillet; use cooking spray for nonstick grill pan.

4 Season meat with salt and pepper, then place on hot skillet.

5 Sear each side for 2 minutes; reduce heat to medium.

6 Cook steaks an additional 4 minutes on each side; basting with marinade as they cook.

7 Remove steaks to a plate, cover with a large bowl, and allow steaks to rest for 15 minutes before serving.

  • Serve with a spinach salad drizzled with olive oil and fresh lemon for extra iron.
