Bathing Duty

Let your kid take over bath duty by giving her toys a scrub!
Submit Discuss

You've been bathing your little one since the day she was born. Isn't it time she do the same for her toys and waterproof dolls? It's a lot of soapy fun and teaches her responsibility to boot. Maybe if she breaks her own back scrubbing the guck out of Barbie's hair she'll be more cooperative the next time you attempt to get the yogurt out of hers!

Bathtub
Washable toys
Bubble bath
Washcloths, loofahs, old toothbrushes, sponges, etc
Your child's bathings suit or birthday suit
2 towels
1 Ask your child to pick out some toys in desperate need of a bath. (That peanut butter-covered car qualifies!) Limit her choices to waterproof toys. In other words, her brother's PlayStation doesn't need a soak, despite being covered in dried SpaghettiOs.

2 Grab one towel for the toys and one for your child.

3 Have her gather her scrubbing supplies—old toothbrushes, washcloths, etc.—and put on her bathing suit or strip down to her birthday suit.

4 Pour in a couple of capfuls of bubble bath.

5 Add water. Be sure to pour the bubble bath in before the water, otherwise you won't get any bubbles.

6 Have your child toss her dirty toys into the bath. She can wash her toys from outside the tub, or hop in herself if so inclined (and maybe you'll finally get her clean, too!)

7 Once she deems her charges squeaky clean, pull them out of the bath. Be sure to rinse them off if they're coated with bubbles, otherwise they'll dry with a sticky film. Let your child dry them off. The toys will look like new (or at the very least, they'll no longer smell like rotten milk!)

This makes a great introduction to chores ('cause you're going to have to do that sometime)! You may want to sweeten the deal by offering your kid a little pocket money for a job well done. If she starts saving today, she can buy more toys to wash tomorrow. See? It's cyclical! Play it safe! Never leave children unattended around water. Even a few inches can be dangerous! Got dirty toys and dirty kids? (Who doesn't?) Nick Jr.'s Bath-Time Bubble Juice will keep them busy and clean.
