Your kids can't carve the turkey, but that doesn't mean they should get to sit around while you slave away on Thanksgiving dinner. Start a family tradition and get them to make their own homemade butter! It'll keep them busy while you work your culinary magic (or at least manage to not burn the turkey!).
Heavy whipping cream: 2 cups
Measuring cup
A plastic container with a tight-fitting lid (i.e., your best Tupperware and not the throwaways from the grocery store!)
You and your kids, a.k.a., the "shakers."
1 Help the kids measure out 2 cups of heavy whipping cream.

2 Pour it into the container and make sure the lid is on super tight!

3 Then ask your kids to shake the daylights out of it.

4 Have everyone take turns shake, shake, shaking.

5 The cream will turn first into whipped cream (yum!) and then thicken into butter after about 20 minutes of rigorous shaking.

An adult will have to shake it at the very end because as the cream turns to butter it gets very difficult to shake. (Yes, you can count that as your workout, so go ahead and have a second piece of pie.)
