I make candy corn sugar cookies and "ogre fingers" that go over really well with kids. For the candycorn cookies buy or make your favorite sugar cookie dough and divide into 3 portions, leave one plain, tint one yellow, and one orange. Then on wax paper shape each color of dough into logs. Stack these logs ontop of eachother in whatever color order you want. Using the wax paper to protect your hands, mush the stack of logs into a triangle shaped log. If the dough has become soft, put it in the fridge for a few minutes, then slice, place on a cookie sheet, sprinkle with coarse sugar and bake. For the ogre fingers tint the sugar cookie dough green and then using the same amount of dough you would use for 1 cookie, make a finger shape. place on the cookie sheet and squash slightly to ensure even baking. using the edge of an eating utensil make lines that resemble knucles slightly off center. Bake as usual, then when completley cooled put a small(1/4 tsp) dolop of strawberry or raspberry preserves on one end or the cookie and press an almond sliver into the jam to resemble a fingernail.

try adding a little food colouring to your cake mix to get a green/orange/blood red sponge

you could jam 2 digestive bisciuts together and ice the top then use icing pens to draw a spiders web

cookies cut into halloween shapes (witches hats, ghosts, pumpkins etc)

pumpkin soup served in the pumpkin

Quoting mellowmama:

anything that mentions bodily fluids, body parts, or creepy crawling insects, mabey some gelatin with "maggots" in it?

a cake that looks like a headless, screaming person would work.

have fun!

i'm sorry, i meant just the head. i don't see how someone could be headless and screaming at the same time.  once you get started on thinking up stuff then your imagination will just take off. you can use a variety of things for inspiration: horror movies, halloween cookbooks, etc...
