I hate how my kid comes home with a bagful of cheap plastic toys and candy every time a kid in her class has a birthday party at school. So when she had her birthday, I went to a discount bookstore at the outlet mall and bought 25 copies of a cute little book ... for just a buck apiece. The kids loved the books, I spent way less than I would have on a "real" goodie bag, and the parents in the classroom weren't cursing me for getting their kids all hopped up on sugar as usual at birthday parties.
