Mix together some popcorn and a handful of ingredients that would make your kid's dentist faint to create these incredibly delicious popcorn flowers. (You can make up for it by serving broccoli for dinner.)
  • Saucepan
  • Mixing spoon
  • Stove
  • Popcorn popper, pot or microwave:
Whatever your preferred method of popping, just get those kernels popped.
  • 10 cups popped pop corn
  • 1.5 ounces Jell-O powder:
In whatever color/flavor your kid wants her flowers.
  • ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons margarine or butter
  • 1 teaspoon cold water
  • 1¼ cups plus 1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar
  • ½ cup marshmallows
  • Chopsticks
  • Plastic wrap:
Plain is fine, but get the colored stuff if you want to be fancy.
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • More butter:
Paula Deen would be so proud!
  • Wax paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • 1
    Pop the popcorn.
  • 2
Help your kid combine the following ingredients in a large saucepan or stockpot over medium heat: corn syrup, water, sugar, margarine, Jell-O powder and marshmallows. (We told you your kid's dentist wouldn't approve!)
  • 3
Cook it until it comes to a boil. (You'll have to do this step, because it's going to be super hot.)
  • 4
When the mixture is boiling, remove it from the heat and help your kid carefully toss the popcorn into the mixture and stir it, coating each kernel. Mmmm.
  • 5
Pour the popcorn into a large mixing bowl. Do not keep the mixture in the pot; it's way too hot for your kid to touch!
  • 6
Then grease up your kid's hands so they're like "butt-ah," baby.
  • 7
When the popcorn mixture is cool enough to handle, help your kid mold the popcorn into flower shapes. Stars, cup-shaped tulips and a cluster of small balls to represent petals work well. He'll have to work fairly quickly before the mixture cools, so you'll probably want to work along with him to make sure you get them all done. (Plus, then he isn't the only one who gets to lick his gooey, delicious fingers when you're finished.)
  • 8
Have him lay the finished flowers onto wax paper.
  • 9
Help your kid stick a chopstick deep into each flower to create a stem.
  • 10
    Let them cool.
  • 11
Help your kid wrap each flower in plastic wrap and tie with a little bow.
  • 12
You can toss them into a vase to make the most scrumptious bouquet ever or, if you can't wait, you can indulge right away. Orville Redenbacher never dreamed popcorn could look so good.
  • These popcorn flowers make awesome gifts for any occasion—Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthdays. Who doesn't like popcorn balls?
