Fun and Free Summer Reading Programs

Half Price Books is launching their Feed Your Brain Summer Reading Program again this year! Starting June 1st, whenever your child reads for at least 15 minutes a day and completes a reading log (with parent/guardian signature), they'll be able to turn in their logs between July 25th and August 2nd to receive one $5 Back-to-School Bucks coupon for anything in the store. Half Price Books will also be hosting a contest in which one reader in each age group will be selected to win a $20 Half Price Books gift card!

Here's how it works!

• First, get a "Feed Your Brain" reading log from your local Half Price Books or download one here
  
• Beginning, Wednesday, June 1st, have your kiddos (ages 14 and under) check each day they've read for 15 minutes or more. Read alouds count for kids who are still learning!
  
• Add up your child's minutes and have a parent/guardian initial at the end of each week. If your child reads at least 600 minutes between June 1st and July 31st, bring the completed and signed log to your local Half Price Books store between July 25th and August 2nd to receive one Feed Your Brain Reading Reward. Your child will receive a $5 Back-to-School Bucks shopping reward coupon valid for anything in store and good at all Half Price Books locations.
  
• The Back-to-School Bucks coupon is valid between July 25th and August 31st only.

Or if you have a Borders nearby, beginning June 1st all kids aged 12 and under can participate in a FREE book promotion called Double-Dog Dare Challenge!

Here's how it works!

• Your kids have to read 10 books (no purchase necessary, so they can be library books!)
  
• Add all of the books your kid read to the form here and have a parent/guardian sign it.
  
• Then, beginning June 1st to September 5th, bring the completed form to any Borders, Borders Express, or Waldenbooks store for a free book from this list of 20 books!

Beginning May 24th (and running through September 6th), Barnes & Noble will run their Summer Reading Imagination's Destination program where kids in grades first through sixth can earn a FREE book whenever they read ANY 8 books!

Here's how it works!

• Kids in grades first through sixth will have to read ANY 8 books and record them in the Reading Journal found here. In the journal, they will need to include to whom they would recommend the book and why.
  
• Then, from May 24th through September 6th, bring the completed Reading Journal to your local Barnes & Noble store to select your FREE book from the list found here, on page 2.
  
• Bonus: parents can enter for a chance to win a NOOK Color with the submission of a completed Reading Journal! Just check the box on the Reading Journal for a chance to win.
