How kids play often reveals what they're thinking. If you want to get involved, become an observer: Watch quietly while your kid plays, and when there's a natural pause, ask a specific question such as, "What a cool bridge you built! Where does it take you?" or "Your car just won the race! How does that feel?" These kinds of leading questions will keep him thinking.
