Family Fun: Start a Band
These days, you might not opt for Keith Partridge to tell you "I Think I Love You" to bring a smile to your face, but what about grooving with your own family to get your smile on?
We're not talking about quitting jobs or dropping out of school and taking the tour bus on the road, but a fun family band can provide you with hours of bonding time in your own living room!
Tips for Kickin' It Rock Band Style (for goofs and giggles):
Remember, the family that plays (music) together, stays together, so don't forget to keep everyone involved and let the kids be the family band managers. They will love being creative almost as much as they love being in charge!

- Help your kids figure out their musical strengths. Everyone has a talent, and the triangle isn't going to hit itself.
- Make a list of the family's favorite songs. You don't have to figure out how to freestyle "Wild Thing" on the electric guitar—just pop in the CD and air-band your way thru it!
- Pick a name for the band. You'll probably end up with something very indie-rock sounding like "Purple Rainbows, Footballs and Macaroni" if your kids have their way, so go with it! Like "Screaming Trees" is sooooo deep?! And how about making band T-shirts? I smell next weekend's family project ...
- Perform for friends and family. Skip booking the Hollywood Bowl for your first gig—just set up the couches to face your makeshift playroom stage and invite some friends and relatives over for a world debut!
