Tips to Get Your Musical Family Singing

One thing I'm sure we can all agree on is that singing is a great family activity—it goes anywhere and you don't have to worry if you sound more like Roseanne Barr than Celine Dion!

Here are some tips to get your family singing:
  • If you can't remember the words to a specific song, fill in the blanks yourself. No one's going to bust you on a few incorrect DJ Lance lyrics during a road trip jam session! And if that doesn't work, channel Slim Shady—just open your mouth and make something up on the fly. Your kids aren't going to complain if you rhyme "sun" with "face" ... they just want you to be goofy!
  • Besides being a great stress reliever, singing is THE perfect on-the-go activity. Let's be honest, you're all for anything that doesn't make your diaper bag heavier or leave you with a mess to clean up, right? Go ahead and bring your vocal repertoire with you on family trips or on the way to school. Talk about spill-proof playtime!
  • Try keeping a running log of what songs are a hit with your kids so you know what music to pull out of your inner-jukebox when you're trying to calm a pre-nap meltdown. For a little help, check out Ziggy Marley and other great kids' music artists at Warren's Children's Music Blog.
