Make Your Own Toys
If you've got some time, imagination and a few random things around the house, you can make some pretty cool toys. These are especially great rainy day ideas: Kids get busy helping to make the toys and then get busy playing with them.
Building blocks: You can turn cereal boxes, baby-wipe containers or other cardboard food boxes (like mac and cheese or pasta, etc.) into blocks for stacking and building.
Pull toys: Tie spools of thread, cardboard boxes or other random things together with string to make a "train" that your toddler can pull around the house.
Shape sorter: Trace your kids' blocks onto the top of a large coffee can or an empty shoebox and cut holes so your kids can stick 'em through.
Nesting cups: Use cream cheese containers and yogurt cups of different sizes to create a set of nesting cups that fit inside one another.
Mailbox: Cut a mail slot into a large cardboard box and give your toddler all your old junk mail.
