Buying Baby Toys

At about 6 months old, a baby is ready to take it up a notch toy-wise and add some educational toys to the repertoire of teething rings and plush animals (one can only suck and chew on the same monkey hand for so long).

So what should you buy? There are many fabulous toys that won't break the bank, but it's easy to be overwhelmed with the choices.

If you're looking for recommendations, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio's award-winners are hard to dispute. Their kid- and family-tested selections are recommended based on safety, developmental and age appropriateness and design, and they make their awards in a variety of price and age ranges.

Don't be afraid to buy your baby the classic toys. Building blocks, shape sorters and stacking rings have been around forever for a reason—they're great.

As you find toys you love, consider starting a wish list of them at an online store like Amazon or Target. You can keep track and buy as you go, or you can send your list when folks ask the perennial "we want to buy the baby something...what does she need?"

Now all you need are some great toy storage tips, and you'll be good to go! (At least until your baby's a toddler!)
