Great Toys for Under $20

You spend a paycheck on a brand-new electric train set with robotic arms and flashing lights—and your kid takes one look at it and then goes nuts over a ball from the dollar store. More expensive doesn't always mean better—and with these $20-or-less toys, skimping on cash doesn't necessarily mean skimping on excitement.
  • Jenga: Steady hands, smooth movements, emotions of steel. Hey, it could happen.
  • K'nex Wheel Action 10 Model Building Set: Creative play for the budding architect (or the not quite sure what she wants to be but it will be something really really cool kid).
  • UglyDoll Big Toe: Ugly never looked so cute. (Hey, isn't that what you used to say about your newborn?)
  • Repulsor Power Iron Man Action Figure: Perhaps hearing him chant "I am Iron Man" with lights and whistles will inspire you to head to the gym (if not to work out, then to get away from the lights and whistles).
  • Monster Bowling: Your kid loves bowling over plants, dogs, his friends ... so he's sure to love bowling over these not-so-scary monsters.
  • Star Wars Transformers Darth Vader/Sith Starfighter: A Sith Starfighter that morphs into a mech-mode Darth Vader and back again. May the force be with you.
  • Disney Pixar's Deluxe U-Repair Wall-E: When Wall-E's not out repairing earth's problems, your kid can repair him with robotic tools and a bit of old-fashioned TLC.
  • Bugville Butterfly Treehouse: Your kids will watch caterpillars turn into cocoons and then into real live butterflies with this toy. Wait until your kid's teacher hears about this.
