Adelai's Birth Story

Submitted by mamaJane
When I delivered my daughter Adelai I had never changed a baby's diaper, let alone held all that many. It was a life changing experience! When I was to deliver her I was induced because I became preeclamptic so I had to go into the hospital and have my labor induced. It was a day after my due date, so there wasn't any worries about her development.

My mom and I were at the doctor's appointment together when my doctor told me, "You're going to be induced. You're preeclamptic, and you'll be going to the hospital and you won't leave until you have a baby." Woah. What a shock! So, my Mom and I headed straight to the hospital from the clinic and called my husband at work to come and meet me there.

While it the hospital I had an epidural (they're amazing) and I slept A TON! When I began to deliver my daughter her head had gotten stuck. I HAD to have an episiotomy. My mom, who was also in the delivery room, and mother-in-law both told me that the doctor would cut a little then have to cut a little more, and then a little more, because she was not coming out. I guess the doctor told my mother-in-law that it was starting to get dangerous as to how long my daughter's head was stuck in the birthing canal. I had no idea, thank the Lord. When she was finally delivered all I could see were these legs flailing down by my feet. I couldn't believe it! She was handed to me and there was my little girl! I cried when I saw her. I counted all her fingers and toes and they were all there. They threw a hat on her head IMMEDIATELY because she had a cone head from being stuck so long. I didn't see it. I only saw my perfect little angel. Oh, by the way, my nurses name was Angel. How crazy!

What an amazing experience. It's a lot of work, but TOTALLY worth it!!
