caskeyjr's Birth Story
Submitted by caskeyjr
My son was born on March 20th of this year. He was due on the 12th. I went in for stress testing at 10 AM. When they did the ultrasound, they saw that I had like no fluid, so they decided to induce me.
Me and my hubby sat in a room with no TV for about 4 hours. I didn't eat any breakfast, so I sent my husband to get the hospital bags and pick up some food and my sweet hubby brought a whole large pizza from my favorite place and walked it threw the maternity ward. (He's so amazing!)
For the remaining 6 hours, they brought us a TV and movies and we ate pizza and watched movies. Finally, at 10 PM, they had an opening for me, so I was moved to a birthing room. They checked me again and I was 4 cm dilated, so at 11 they decided they were going to give me pitocin.
At 1 AM the contractions hit me like a ton of bricks, so I had them give me drugs through my IV (no epidural). It didn't help—just made me tired—but my husband was awesome. He was so supportive and knew all the right things to say. It surprised me! He was cool and calm and that's what I needed.
Around 3 AM I asked to be given an epidural, but, since I had back surgery, they sat there for a half hour and explained why they couldn't do it. Finally, they gave me something better in my IV. That was awesome and just in time 'cause they had me start pushing... and at 4 AM my son arrived!
