HoneyBearz' Birth Story: Delivery Rush

Submitted by HoneyBearz
I was pregnant with my 4th child and feeling quite anxious as I was overdue by 6 days and was due to go into the hospital to be induced the following day. That morning, as I was doing my errands, I felt the occasional pang in my gigantic belly but didn't really thing anything of it. I had been getting the occasional tweak in that region for the past couple of months.

As the morning turned into early afternoon the pangs kept coming but they still weren't painful so I assumed false labour. I was always terrified that I would be one of those women who rushed to the hospital thinking they were in labour only to be told it wasn't time yet. I didn't want to get my husband in a state of panic if it wasn't "go time".

Mid afternoon came and I went to go pick up one of my children from school and was still getting the pangs but they were starting to make me cringe. I finally decided that this must be it. My little girl is finally going to come. The contractions were coming about 20 minutes apart and I thought once they get to about 15 minutes apart I will call my husband at work and get him to come home. Unfortunately my little bundle had her own ideas.

The contractions jumped to only 7 minutes apart and were really hurting now. I called my husband and he started to rush home but he was all the way downtown and about 40 minutes away. I proceeded to get everything ready to go and put by the front door. Hospital bags, the kids bags as they were going to a friends house and putting the dog away. All the while I am still on the phone with my husband in tears.

Finally my husband arrives and we all hop in the truck to head to the hospital where we will finally get to meet our sweet angel and a family friend is coming to pick up our boys. Not looking forward to the drive which is at least 45 minutes away and during rush hour, I tell my two little boys that they may see mommy crying and not to be scared. I definitely cried as well as screamed and begged for the pain to stop. My poor husband was trying to get the hospital as quickly as possible but there was so much traffic and I am sure I must have looked like a deranged mad woman to the people in the other vehicles. At one point we were about to give up and call an ambulance and deliver on the side of the highway but we made it. Crazy screaming lady and all.

At the hospital my husband dropped me off at the door so he could park the truck. I tried to get to the maternity ward but was unable to walk because the pain was just constant now. I barely had a chance to catch my breath before another contraction would be washing over me. A very kind lady at the information booth saw me and placed me in a wheelchair and took me up the the ward.

Once there the nurses just helped strip me bare from the waist down and placed me on a table. I was already crowning and there wasn't anytime to really prepare. As I was pushing away the nurses were still trying to get everything in place for my daughters arrival. Meanwhile my poor husband is outside in the hall with our two sons waiting for our friend to arrive as we didn't want them to see what was going on with mommy. They had already had to deal with seeing mommy turn into a stark raving lunatic in the truck. Finally our friend arrived and my husband was able to come into the room.

After some heavy pushing, lots of sweat and tears, our little princess arrived. Healthy, pink and beautiful. Every minute of pain, the crying, the screaming, all became worth it once I was able to see her.
