Chloe's Birth Story

Submitted by Anonymous
All through my pregnancy I never worried about the upcoming birthday. At my last midwife appointment, she told me my blood pressure was too high and I was to go straight to hospital for blood pressure profiling. So off we went to the hospital (me and my boyfriend Pete), and sat having the baby's heart rate monitored.

After two hours, the midwife came back and told me she'd like to examine me to check everything was ok. I was due in two days so I thought, "Ok." Ten minutes later, after an embarrassing prod, the reality hit. "Come back at tea time and we'll induce you first thing in the morning."

Arghhhhh!!! Oh my god! I was going to be a mum! For the first time panic set in how was I going to do this? Why did we decide to have a baby?? A restless night followed, alone in an uncomfortable hospital bed. Should I run away? Maybe baby will stay put! Not likely.

At 9am sharp, the doctor came and inserted a gel. "If this doesn't start labour in 6 hours we will repeat up to 3 times before we break your water," he told me. So we sat waiting. Four hours passed. I told Pete to go get something to eat. Within an hour I was ringing him to get back. "I think it's started," I told him.

He arrived back at hospital and alerted the midwife I was in a lot of pain. "Do you want some paracetamol," she asked. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I was examined again. "You're not in labour," they told me. Well what was this pain then? An hour later I was still in agony then they examined me again oh they said you are in labour, the monitor didn't pick up your contractions because the baby had hiccups. I knew it.

So after another half an hour, by this stage I was 6cm dilated. They offered me gas and air finally. At 3:30pm we went to delivery suite offered me epidural. I didn't see ;the point gas and air my new best friend and ice water tasted delicious!! They said baby should be here by 9pm. Well I wasn't waiting. She was coming fast, so after lots and lots of gas and air, 5:30 came and the midwife said in shock, "You can push now." I'd been wanting to push for the last half an hour, so I pushed so hard and out she flew Chloe May Sampson. 14/11/2009, weighing 6'12, a day early after a 2 1/2 hour labour for a first time mum.

She is my world, my life, an unconditional love heightened. Everyday i love you more!! Now 10 weeks old, she smiled at me I cant stop crying with joy!!! It hurt, but it's true, you forget it when you see your miracle and id do it again tomorrow!!
