Skyla Marie's Birth Story
Submitted by Cola_Bear1016
It was September 19th 2009, and my husband and I were just going to see what we were having, I was betting on a boy he was betting on a girl....he won. While getting the ultrasound the nurse stopped and then told us to wait in the lobby and she will be right back. 3 hours later they finally came out and told us what was going on. I was 23 weeks pregnant and over and inch dialated I was begginning to give birth and I had no idea. They sent us to Denver, we live in Wyoming so not to much of a drive about 3 to 4 hours, however they moved the hospital and it was not updated in the GPS so it took us nearly 6 hours just to get there. When we got there the doctor that was in charge of me explained what was going on much better. I had cervical insufficiency which just means that my cervix is not strong enough and much to small to hold the weight of pregnancy so what we were going down there for was to get a cerclauge which is a stitch around the cervix. During that weekend many decisions had to be made on whether or not to do the surgery, whether to recesitate if she were born early, take meds or just simple bedrest. We went with bedrest since it had less harm on the baby and myself. A month went by of hospitalization with strict bedrest, when I recieved visitors they wheeled me around the hospital for different scenery and when the weather was nice I got to go outside. I had steroids to help her lungs, and progesterone to delay labor, I went into laber several times during the month, finally on October 15th I was in labor, since premature contractions are much different that full term contrations I had no idea and I was on a baby monitor twice a day I know I was not in labor that morning but I began shortly after and never knew until about 8 that night. The doctor came in and looked I was about 4 inches dialated and the baby was breech and had been since I went in the hospital. He placed me on complete bedrest until they knew what to do. Since the water bag was in the vaginal canal and had been since I arrived(I was able to feel her feet and hands in the canal but since it was my first baby I thought it was normal until we found out what was going on.) They placed a catheter and turned me on my head to try and put the bag back in. They debated over another amnio centesis to check for infections. By abut 9:30 am on the 16th they decided to do a c-section and take her. they wheeled me in after throwing a suit at my husband who barely got there after I called him to come up. and we went in they gave me the epidural, which in turn gave me anxiety since I could not feel anything from the underarms down they didnt want to give me a relaxant since it cause some memory loss , which is very true by the way, but they ended up having to. Finally at 10:30 AM I had my baby girl skyla which was 2lbs 4 oz and 16in long. She was 26 weeks old and now she is 6 months old at just over 11lbs and she is doing great. She went home on o2 and several medications but is off of everything and I could not be a more proud mom.
