Kaelyn's Birth Story
Submitted by AJMcG
I woke up Thursday, April 22 to light contractions. Ignoring them as BH, I figured they would go away once I woke up and got myself more hydrated. I have never drank so much water in one day! All day long I drank bottles and bottles of water, peeing every minute and a half!
I went to a scheduled NST and had contractions through out it but they weren't close or long enough to be considered labor. So they sent me home. I was only dilated to 1cm so I figured she would be a late baby.
Contractions got more intense and closer together but even so they were about 10-20 mins in between. I had plans to see a movie that night so I went ahead and saw it. The movie started at 9pm, killer contractions started about 11pm. They weren't too bad, just very uncomfortable.
I got home about 12:30am and got online to talk to my ladies on chat. All of them agreed that it sounded like labor. I got up to go pee, and my mucous plug came out! Gross! About 2am it got so bad that I couldn't do anything. I couldn't sleep, couldn't move, nothing. So I took a poop (heh) and took a shower.
I got to L&D around 3am and was seen almost instantly. My favorite doc was there! She's 27 weeks with her first so she's very nice and gentle and caring. She knew just how bad I wanted a May baby. Well, she told me I was 5cm and that baby was coming that day!
So they move me into a delivery room, Robert calls the families. Once my mom and best friend got there, things started getting hectic. I was dilated to 6cm and the pain was intense. I chickened out and got the epidural. An hour later, nothing. So they broke my water. Half hour later, 7cm. Nothing really progressed after that and I was losing track of time. My epidural was wearing off and the pain started to really hurt. I wanted to get sleep cuz I hadn't had sleep at all and I was getting so low on energy and the pain was keeping me up. I was 100% complete but no urge to push. The nurse finally convinced someone to give me some kind of numbing drug in my epidural cath. I couldn't feel anything from my boobs down. It was great! I got about forty five mins of sleep, and then they woke me up saying it was time to push.
She was so high up that the doc said it would probably take 3-4 hours of pushing. I didn't like that! I started pushing around 12:45pm. This is going by others cuz I had no idea what time anything was! I pushed and pushed and never let go of a push in between contractions. I was not letting her slide back up! Well, 1:13pm came and I asked the doc if she would be born in the next hour. She laughed and said fat chance (real positive lady..). My mom said "I give you twenty mins. I'm tired". She was joking cuz no one had slept, we were all tired. Well, I started pushing soooo hard. I wanted her out! BOOM her head was crowning, the doc is yelling at me to stop pushing so they can take the table apart. I couldn't stop, she was coming. I gave it one more push and out came her head, and her body slid right out after. I got her out so quickly the doc had JUST taken the table apart and they almost dropped my baby! The time? 1:33pm. Exactly twenty mins after my mom said she was tired! In your face doc!
I thought I pushed for an hour and a half, doc said just under an hour. My baby girl came out perfect!! She didn't have a pointed head or anything. The nurses and doc all said that she was the first baby in forever to not have that "ugly" newborn look. I was scared that she was going to be an ugly baby haha. She's gorgeous!

I tore four times and only one tear was bad enough to need stitches and even that's only a 2nd degree and on the inside. I have no pain from it at all. I do however have a lovely friend Uncle Rrhoid. Not pleasant at all. But totally worth every minute of pain for this beautiful being.
I always said I deserve a easy and quick labor since I had such a bad pregnancy, and I got it! I couldn't be more happy with the outcome.
