madyson's birth story

Submitted by khgs
ok so i switched doctors in the middle of my pregnancy because of moving back to my hometown from college so they gave me 2 (actually 3) different due dates. i was orignally told i was due on oct. 12 then i was told oct. 28 then my last doctors office finally settled on oct. 14th. the calculations me and my husband did i was due on oct 28-30th. my husband is in the Army National Guard and had to leave for AIT aug 19th. i started having a problem after he left, my blood pressure would be sky high when i went into my appointment and then before i would leave it would be normal. my belly was measuring about 2 weeks bigger than it was supose to but all was well. at my 37th week check up on sept. 21st i was measuring 1 cm dialated and they set me up with an appoinment with a specialist to determine if i was preeclamptic and if madyson's body could handle being out of the womb. i went to she specialist's office at 1 p.m. september 23rd they took my blood pressure and said that is was above it's normal sky high level so they did an ultrasound on little miss madyson and her organs were all working properly! they checked my blood pressure again and it was still really high! the doctor walked in with an envelope and said 'i have good news and bad news. good news madyson's organs are working properly, she is estimated to be about 6lbs and 15oz! bad news, you have preeclampsia. i'm sending you upstairs to be induced right now!' i said 'omg! ok!' i don't even remember the walk from the office to the elevator or to the check in desk i just remember thinking, how is my husband getting here?! still in shock i asked my mom if i could use her phone because i left mine at home (good job! lol) and i called my husband and told him what was going on. he was in shock, he has just changed bases that day so it was hetic already! by 3 p.m. i was admitted to the hospital, checked (i was dialated to 3 cm) and had my iv in and getting magnisum sulfate, fluids and on the phone with red cross to get my husband home! they were not going to let him come home! my doctor called them 2 times! and told them what was going on with me and they still didn't think it was important enough. i finally called them and told them like it was plain and simple and then they were more than happy to help (lol)! apparently they didn't listen when the doctors said i was preeclamptic but when i said it they were like 'omg! that is important and life threatening' and put in for his leave. my doctor told me if i wasn't fully dialated or havent already had my baby by 10 the next morning i was going to have an emergency c section. i was nervous about it but knew it was best for the baby! on sept 24th @ 10 am a new doc was on call and ordered my water to be broken, (i had several huge bags!)they also gave me 2 small doses of main medicine through my iv, pitocin and a crushed pill at this time. by 12 p.m. i was wondering why i wasn't in c section and the doc said it was because there wasn't enough room for an emergency c section, (what the crap?! it was an emergency, life threatening!) my husband was so irritated with the military and the doctors taking their own sweet time he went up the chain of comand to his boss' boss'! and they excused him for the weekend! then my husband got leave and got to an airport that didn't have a flight coming close to where i was until in the morning! by 6:30 p.m. i was begging for a epidural( i was 7 cm)! at 7 when the buy came in to do it the needle broke in my back, TWICE! the doctors checked me again and i was 10 cm! my medicine for HB had me so out of it my oxygen levels were dangerously low and so were madyson's i fell asleep between contractions! at 10 they had me awake enough to push at 10:15 my husband called his mom (who was there with me) and asked how it was going she told him all she knew! they hung up then she called him back at 10:25 because the doc was on the way in! my husband was on the phone through the whole thing, sitting by himself in the airport encouraging me and being an amazing husband! when i didn't hear a cry from the baby i was really worried, my mom was on the floor crying, and my husbands mom was crying too but did not want him to worry and told him we would talk to him later. our little miss madyson was a still born, she was all bluish black and not making noises or moving, the doctor's were trying to get me to foucus on them and the placenta instead of the silence from my baby. i remember looking at all of these people crowded around my little baby touching her and then i finally heard a cry, a faint one but a cry none the less! they rushed her to the nursery and had her in the NICU. madyson kaide smith was born at 10:36 p.m. weighing 6 lbs and 19 inches! my husband finally made it to the hospital about 12 hours after i had her, when he walked in fully dressed in uniform the nurses and everyone just pointed what way to go becase they all knew who he was there for! lol! he came to see me first and i told him all about what happened then he went to see her, and came back in the room with me for the remainder of the day since i was still on bed rest. i got moved to a new room and got taked off bed rest at about 10 p.m. and then i got to hold my baby for the first time since i had her! they ran tests on her and determined she was probably 35 weeks instead of 37 weeks like they thought, she couldn't eat for like the first 4 1/2 days because of the medicine i was on had her mag level way to high, she also couldn't keep her body temp up. she had to stay a week at the hospital and after further tests and calculations it was confirmed that she was actually 33 weeks along when they induced me. they should have just done the c section! but now mady is a happy healthy 10 month old! she is walking and everything, aside from her size you never would have known she was a preemie!!!
