Kohl's Birth Story

This is a little late, but thought I would update anyways!! My son Kohl Adam was born on June 27th, 2010. I was due on June 20, so he was 7 days late. My Dr decided on the 26th to induce me. I went to the hospital at 3pm and I was already 2cm dialated, 80% effaced. They broke my water right away (didn't hurt at all), then started an IV (didn't hurt because they froze the area first), then started pitocin (drip). The baby pooped inside me (maconium) so I was informed that when the baby comes out, he would be going straight to a special team in the room so they could suck it out of his airways. They told me to go walk for an hour, but I didn't make it that long. 4 laps in the halls and I was contracting (about 10 min walking) It is like no feeling I have ever felt before. People say it's like period cramps,, (boloni). It's a serious ache unlike anything I have ever felt. Mind you they checked me again and I was 4 cm. So I got the epidural ( didn't hurt at all) I said the alphabet while getting the epidural to keep my mind off of it, and it worked. It took about 15 minutes for the epidural to kick in and that was the worst part of my whole labour. The pain was pretty intense. I started to feel like I had to push about 10 minutes after getting the epi, so they checked me and said I was 9 1/2 cm dialated. So in 30 minutes I went from being admitted to having to push!! at 4 pm they had me push for 1/2 an hour just so I could get used to it. After that, instead of the nurse putting my pitocin up so I would contract faster, she put it down (before going on her break) The doctor was not impressed! They were giving me catheters to drain my bladder during all of this (fun fun). It took a long time for the contractions to start coming every 2 min or so. My son was born at 2:39 am on the 27th. He came out sideways and they had to use the vacuum to get him out. I pushed and they pulled. I didn't feel a thing. No burning, nothing. It was great. He was 7lb, 20oz. 20 inches long. He is so cute!
