Jaleesa's birth story

Submitted by Jelli22
I got into bed at 11:45pm on 25 June 2010 after a day of crazy nesting (hanging curtains putting kit set furniture together, fussing about every little detail) having started at 8 am i was really knackered and fell asleep straight away, my partner was already fast asleep.

At 1:05am on 26 June 2010 i was rudely awoken by a gushing of liquid between my legs, initially i thought i had made myself that tired that i had slept through the need to go toilet and had wet myself so i tried to hold it but no that wasn't working i soon clicked that my waters had broken. I wasn't expecting it as i wasn't due for another 9 days.

My partner is a very heavy sleeper so he had no idea that this was going on just inches away from him on the other side of the bed, i shook him wildly yelling "my waters just broke!!" he threw the covers off jumped up put his clothes and shoes on grabbed the car keys and said ok lets go,( we are a young couple and its our first baby) i laughed and said we didn't have to go yet (bless him for his enthusiasm)

I rung my mum who was coming to the birth as she had to come across town to where we lived, i wasn't contracting yet so decided to share the news with a couple of family members before ringing my midwife to tell her. She told me to stay put until my contractions were 5 minutes apart and to go back to bed and get some sleep.

I started to time my contractions, getting back to bed was impossible i was too excited :) My mum arrived and together we sat on the couch watching tennis of all things until 6:30am (my partner had managed to get a few hours sleep in which would prove to have been the best idea he had)

We got to the hospital and a doctor checked me out, i was only 3cm dialated so they told me to go home and come back when my contractions were 3 mins apart, so we made our way home again (stopping for a mc donalds brekkie on the way :P)

it was 12:30pm before we arrived at the hospital again and i was 5cm dialated so they said we could stay until baby was born and they were estimating that to be around 4:30pm.

well at 2:30pm i was still 5cm dialated, as i had chosen to give birth with no pain relief, i had not had any.

The contractions were getting rather intense by about 3:30pm but i was managing as i thought baby would arrive soon. i was checked again 7cm dialated, so she was not making her entry any time soon.

i was having really unbareable contractions for the next 5 hours, the doctors thought because of the intensity of them that i must be ready to push so they checked again but i was STILL only 7cm.

It was just after 9pm by this time and i had still had no pain relief at all, and hadn't eaten since my mc donalds brekkie! The doctors decided it would be best if i had an epidural and some other iv drug to speed up the process, i was hesitant as i was adament i didnt want pain relief, but i was almost passing out with every contraction so i agreed.

At 9:30pm after 20.5 hours of labour, i had my pain relief and oh what a relief it was, i managed to have a few 5 min naps and rested on the bed until 11pm when my partner decided to go get himself and my mum some more coffee, just after he left the room a doctor came in to check me again and as she went to check she said omg her head is right there u can push with your next contraction!!

i freaked out and said i was not pushing until my partner returned, i tried calling his cellphone i texted him but got no answer, i was stressing he had been so brilliant through this labour, he had massaged me walked with me, got in the shower with me, reassured me, he was amazing and i couldn't let him miss out on his daughter being born!!!

The next contraction came and i managed to hold it but the next one there was no way i had to push so i did and just as i did my partner walked back through the door shocked at the sight of me pushing he rushed to my side and held my hand. i pushed a few times before my mum (who was at the foot of the bed) said to my partner come here come here, he went to the end of the bed and i kept pushing, watching his face light up more and more with each push, his reassuring words going through my mind

finally at 11:42pm on 26 June 2010 my BEAUTIFUL daughter Skiyla Emmie-Olivia was born, it was the most amazing moment of my life, she was perfect and hearing her little cry and seeing her little eyes looking up at me as i cuddled her for the first time was worth every moment every second every bit of pain.

daddy cut the cord with a smile from ear to ear and wee tears welling up.

Skiyla is now 10 weeks old and as beautiful as the day we met her, with thick dark hair, olive skin and daddys beautiful blue eyes!! daddy is a very proud father and motherhood is amazing we are a happy wee family :)
