Jr's Birth Story
Submitted by jrsandciansmommy
My son was due June 27, 2009. When that day finally arrived he decided he still wasn't ready to come out. The days kept passing and on my next doctors appointment they decided to have me go in and get induced. I was scheduled for the induction on July 6 at 9 pm. When I arrived it took them an hour to finally induce me, and as soon as she started giving me the medicine to make me start effacing, the contractions started on their own, but they still induced me.
I wanted to do an all-natural birth, and I had planned on doing that since I had found out that I was pregnant. The pain wasn't that bad at first, I was starting to think that I would be able to make it through. But as the pain got worse, I tried different positions to try to ease it, and every time I got into a comfortable position and the pain eased, the nurse would come in and tell me to lie flat on my back.
After 6 hours the pain was getting worse, but I was still able to handle it. I decided to ask the nurse if she had anything that could just help me sleep between the contractions, so she came in and gave me something, I don't remember what it was called. After she gave it to me, I definitely started feeling tired. About 15 minutes later, my water broke, and my husband just happened to be sitting at the bottom of the bed by my legs...oops, lol. But after my water broke the contractions started coming faster and harder. I couldn't do it anymore.
When the nurse came back in I asked her how long it would take for the epidural to start working and I had decided to get it. When the guy came in to give me the epidural, I was half asleep and didn't feel a thing. With the epidural and whatever the medicine was that the nurse gave me, I slept the rest of the night, and most of the next day.
When I did wake up the next day, I was relieved that there was a different nurse (I did not like the first one). She started having me push to see where the baby was. The first time I pushed she said that the baby would be born in the next couple of hours. After she left I fell back to sleep until she came back and my doctor came in. my son was delivered an hour after they started having me push. And that medicine that the other nurse gave me was still working. So while I was pushing, I was falling asleep in between.
17 1/2 hours of labor, and my son was born at 3:31 pm on July 7, 2009. The happiest moment of my life. Now a year later, and I'm expecting my second child. Even though my experience with the first birth wasn't the best, I can't wait to go through it again so that I can welcome my new son.
