Birth Stories: Now? no.... How about now???
Submitted by Budgetmom2010
I was about 7 months pregnant when my daughter dropped into the +2 position, not to mention I suddenly started having contractions. The doctors put me on bed rest until I was full term which of course made me feel even more anxious to have my baby. Over the next month or so I spent a large majority of my time laying on my aching back and going to and from the ER hoping my contractions were getting much worse.
Oh and did I mention the 4+ feet of snow around the same time I was forcing my hubby to drive me to and from the hospital? Yes 4+ feet of snow in drifts all over (thank God for 4WD)
I finally convinced my Doctor to induce me 1 week early since I was 4cm dilated and fully effaced a whole month early! When the morning of came I was so excited I woke up much earlier in order to get all my things in order.
When I arrived at the hospital I had my water broken and the pitocin dosed. I decided to get my epidural before the contractions got to bad (Ladies I recommend it Highly that you do it around 4-5 cm since you have to sit hunched over and hold perfectly still!!)
At around 5:55 the dr. finally got my pitocin dosing correct and right after the nurse checked my dilation and said 8cm the doctor checked it and said 10cm.
The Doctor put some gloves on and said to try a "practice push" however right after my practice push he says "oh crap there's the head" so he rushes over to put his scrubs on. not long afterwards I notice in the mirror that I could see her shoulders and I knew it wouldn't be but 1 or 2 more pushes.
At 6:18 pm Alexis Nicole was born at 6 lbs 6.9 oz and 18 in. long. It had only taken me 20 minutes and 6 contractions, and surprisingly I did not require any stitches! I found out then that my doctor had helped by doing perinatel stretching as I pushed! My recovery was 24 hours and my daughter has slept through the night every night (including the first)
