Alesia Nicole's Birth Story

On December 22, 2010, at 12:56 AM, I went into labor with my third child. I was sleeping and it wasn't me that noticed my water had broke, it was my husband Nick. He woke me up and got the bag we had packed a few days earlier. I put on some new pajama pants and went to wake up my other kids, Noah and Sophia.
I'd planned a natural water birth. At first I wasn't worried at all. It was just like the other kids' births. When we got to the hospital, the nurse took me directly to my room and checked to see how many centimeters dilated I was. She looked back up at me and said, "3 centimeters." I knew I had a while until the baby was born, so I was going to try to take a nap. But every time I tried to, the pain got worse.
I tried everything to get the pain to stop a little. Nothing worked. At about 4:40 AM, I was 9 cm dilated. The doctor said I had about another hour until the baby was born. I just sat there waiting for the doctor to come in and tell me to get into the tub. Finally, at about 6:15 AM, the doctor told me to get into the tub and push. With my husband and sister around me and by my side, I knew I could do it. The pain was so bad. But I didn't complain. I pushed for 45 minutes and then she was out! A baby girl, Alesia Nicole Finton, born December 22, 2010 at 7:03 AM.
