Darren's Birth Story
Submitted by darrensmomma
I found out in January of 2010 I was about three months pregnant. By March, I found out it was a little boy, who I would name Darren David. He was due July 24, 2010.
When the 24th rolled around, I got a horrible headache, so by the 25th when it had not gone away, I called my doctors and they said to go ahead and go to the Labor and Delivery unit of the hospital. So I told my fiancé and called my mom, grabbed my bags, and headed out the door. Twenty minutes later I was laying in a Labor and Delivery bed and they were preparing me for my induction.
They started out with a small pill called Cervidil (I think; not so sure of its name) and had me walk through the halls of the hospital. Then, once I was dilated to 3 cm, they started me on Pitocin ... it happened somewhat slowly, about 12 PM that afternoon, I went to the restroom and my water broke ... so we called my nurse in and she said that it was not my water (my nurse should have stayed in nursing school longer, obviously). They started my epidural at midnight because I could not take the pain anymore. Then they came it at 2 AM to break my water. At that point they realized it had already broke, so after 72 hours of horrible, painful labor, they had me start pushing for two and a half hours.
At that point Darren was stuck and my midwife decided they would have to do a C-section. She called the doctor and told him, and the nurse prepared me for the surgery, but the medicine to stop my contractions did not work. Once the anesthesiologist came in to take out my epidural and do a spinal, I told him I wanted to be put to sleep—I was in too much pain. So they got me into the O.R. and put me to sleep.
Two hours later, I woke up in Recovery in a lot of pain. The nurses wheeled me back to my postpartum room and brought me my beautiful baby boy, who had a very big cone head, lol. He was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and I would do it all again if I had to!!
