Alan's Birth Story

Submitted by chatos
My labor pains started around 7 PM on August 2, which was my second daughter's b-day. I started to get more and more intense pain as the time went by. A good way to calm my pain was rocking in the sofa back and forth. As it was getting later, about 2 AM, I told my partner that we had to go, since the hospital I was going to deliver in was 45 min. from where I live.

When I got to the hospital, I was about 3 cm but I thought that was just the beginning, since I was very tired and hadn't slept for almost 24 hours. I just wanted to sleep at least 10 min. but the pain was so bad. Sorry, no sleep. Around 7 AM, my doctor came to check me, but unfortunately, there was no progress.

I started to walk and my pain started to get more intense as time went by. At noon I was about 5 1/2 cm. I laid on my side and was able to sleep for about 20 min. Boy did it feel good. At 3:30, my pain got so bad I remember asking the nurse to give me something for the pain, which I had never done with my other three kids. When I got the medicine, I felt very tired and fell asleep for about 10 min. I woke up with a very bad urge to push, and at 3:45, my water broke. The nurses called my doctor, who was about a block away from the hospital.

The doctor took a few more minutes to get there because HIS BIKE HAD A FLAT TIRE. The doctor got there about 3:53, while the nurses were telling me to not push. How can you do that when you have the urge? By 4 PM, they had everything ready for me to push, and by 4:03, my baby, Alan, was born. We also had to wait for a little bit because he had meconium so they had to clean him up. He was facing up, and weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces. The doctor said that it was more painful for that reason. The pain was worth it and I added my fourth child, AWESOME!
