The premature adventure of my Squishy!
Submitted by SquishysMommy024
I found out I was pregnant with my first child August 4th 2009. At exactly 1:30pm. 14 pregnancy test later... I knew for sure I was pregnant. I knew I was having a boy. I just KNEW IT. I quit smoking the day I found out. And took a vow no more caffiene, pop, soda, coffee anything until he came out. I had a great pregnancy, took care of myself he was devloping perfectly. We found out Squishy was a boy Oct26th. Ha knew it! I worked full time the days went by my belly got bigger lol. On January 9th my family and I went out to eat. I ate way to much, my plate, my boyfriends plate, a little bit off my parents. Went home and relaxed watching some movies. January 10th, I thought I really had to use the bathroom, I was having bad lower back pains and we even googled it. Nobody thought really anything of it because it was to early for him to be doing this. As the day went on and the evening turned into the next day. I woke my mom up around 5am January 11th telling her I was hurting pretty badly and I didnt want to mess around with it. We went to the hospital and I was told I was 5cm. I screamed "this cant be true, its to early, what did I do wrong?" They told me nothing, sometimes this just happens. On January 12th at 11:20am. I gave birth to a beautiful 2lb 8oz screaming healthy boy! Daddy got to cut his cord and since he came out screaming I even got to hold him for a few minutes! Jack was whisked away shortly after to the NICU. Jack pretty much defied all odds. He didnt need oxygen, or any other medical intervention. He was on a feeding tube until he developed his "suck and swallow." Since he was 12 weeks early and born at exactly 28 weeks. I figured we would be in for the long haul, since babies dont know how to do the sucks swallow until about 34 weeks. Jack started showing signs of rooting at 32 weeks, the drs tried feeding him with a bottle and he took! Jack was discharged from the hospital March9th 2010. It was the happiest day of my life. The reason for his premature birth...I had a bladder infection that they didnt pick up on until a week after I had been to the doctors, and my placenta had a rip in it which allowed the infection in bladder to spread. Needles to say Squishy was one smart baby and he knew to get the heck out of dodge! Even with them trying to stop the birth...he still kept pushing out! Today. Jack is beautiful healthy boy who is right on track with all milestones and no problems. We just celebrated his 1yr birthday! I know having a premature baby is the scariest thing in the world, but not all preemies are alike. Jack is my beautiful boy!!
