Kaleighs Birth Story

Submitted by Kaleighsmommy
At the end of March, I noticed I had not yet received my period, and since my husband and I had been trying to conceive for about three months now, I was excited to take a pregnancy test! The first Clearblue digital readout read "pregnant" within a matter of seconds. My emotions overwhelmed me as I called my husband with the news.

Over the next three days, I had made an appointment with my gyn to confirm this, and took three more tests! (Of course, they all came back positive.) On April Fools' Day, I went to see my gyno and had confirmation that all those pregnancy tests were not lying after all.

My pregnancy was filled with tons of emotions, and even though I was happy to be pregnant and having a baby, I couldn't wait for her to get here. My pregnancy was a very long and stressful one. On Friday, Dec. 3 at 1:30 AM, I began having strong contractions. I finally decided to go to the hospital at 5 AM. When I got there, they checked me and said I was only dilated to a 1, so they had me walk around for an hour to try to progress. After the hour, the nurses checked me again and said there was no change and sent me home with a prescription for Lortab to help with the contraction pain. I continued contracting for the rest of the day Friday and throughout the night into Saturday morning at three minutes apart the entire time!

Around 4 AM Saturday morning, my water had broken, but I wasnt sure if it had since I was laying on a towel due to me frequently sitting in the bathtub in an attempt to relieve my contraction pains. Finally at 9 am, we headed back to the hospital where I discovered I had finally dialted to a 3 1/2 & was able to stay! The nurses set me up to all the monitors. By that time the pain was very intense & they ordered my epidural right away. Friends & family stopped by all day as I was slowly progressing. Finally around 12 am Sunday morning, the dr hooked me up to pitocin to speed up that last 1/2 cm that didnt want to go. Around 6 am, they announced that I needed to go ahead & have a c-section because the pitocin did not help my body achieve that last goal. I was very upset, I was crying as well as my husband & family because they knew how badly I did not want to have the procedure. The nurses prepped me for surgery & wheeled me to OR1 & my obgyn began the surgery at 6:53 am, and at 7:14 am my baby girl was born! At a whopping 9lbs 1oz & 21 in long I was kind of glad at that point I had a c-section instead of pushing her out. My husband watched the entire thing & was overwhelmed with job when she was finally born. It was a long 51 hours of labor, but 2 months later, even after all the times of being pooped on, spit up on, drooled on, late nights into early mornings, & crying spells, it was worth it, & I wouldnt change one thing about it!
