What? Waterbroke? NOW? But I have school tomorrow!

Submitted by MommyShark
It was Thursday night. I was talking on the computer with my friend who is at a Navy base. I just shut down the computer at 11pm and then something happend. My first thought "That was wierd, I know I have better control of my bladder then that..." So I called my mom who works nights so I'm home all alone. She said "Feel any pain?" My answer was no. By this time I was walking around with a towel between my legs. "As soon as you feel pain let me know." It was my first pregnancy and I had no knowledge of contractions or broken water or ANYTHING on going into labor. By the way, I am only 6 months along while this is happening. So I call the ER. Of course the woman tells me that if my water in fact did break that I should get to the hospital. Called my mom and she showed up. I was laying on the couch watching tv not having a single idea what is going on. She was rushing around grabbing things and I asked her "Can't we do this later? I have school tomorrow." Seriously, I did say that. In case you're wondering, during this I am a senior in high school. With morning sickness I still had a perfect attendence record. Not for long! Skipping the long process of getting yourself into a room at the hospital and getting hooked up to machines. It was midnight, and I stayed there until my doc came to talk to me at 9am. Nothing happend in those nine hours. No contractions or anything that didn't feel normal. He told me I have a choice of going to either two hospitals. I asked him why? Well, after your water breaks it usually happens in 72 hours. For you to deliver. Usually. Since my hospital has NOTHING for premature babies they have to send them by helicopter to a different city. So why not send the mom with the baby? First pregnancy, first visit to hospital. I was strapped on my side on a board, put on my first ambulance, then my first airplane ride, then my first helecopter ride. WHICH WAS AWESOME! Still nothing wierd going on. Then was taken to my room which I was going to spend 3 weeks in before I had my baby. Waiting in my room was my ex boyfriend's (biological father) But he is worthless and not in the picture...ANYWAY! his mom. I texted her where they were taking me (never met the woman before in my life) and she lived only an hour away. She got me everything I needed. Pretty sad that a mom has to help out cuz her son doesn't take responsibility. He never came down, but his friends did, to see me. I had to be in the therapy pool twice a day, once on weekends. The pool is kept at 90 degrees the whole time. It's only 5 feet deep. It's suppose to build up your amniotic fluid. I was completly out. And it didn't really build up. Two weeks into it they were going to do an amniocentisis but the only fluid they could find was right next to his eye, next to his cord, or his placenta, so they decided not to jeopordize anything. THANK YOU BABY FOR NOT ALLOWING MOMMY TO GET STABBED IN THE TUMMY WITH A NEEDLE! They decided to wait one more week. At this time I was starting to feel the contractions. It was my belly tightening ONLY a little big. I was never ever in pain or uncomfortable in anyway. So they planned the day of delivery. The day BEFORE we were going to have the delivery I monitored myself in the morning. Every morning I had to do this. Strap on two monitors to my belly to check his heart and my contractions. I was doing my own thing while monitoring and felt a contraction then nurses came in. "Are you okay?" they asked. Nothing was different too me, I felt fine. They told me that when I had that last contraction my baby's heart rate dropped. I went to the pool and when I came back the doc was sitting in my room. They told me they were going to put me in a stress test to make sure everything was fine. A stress test was them putting me into fake labor to see what happens. After awhile everything was fine, they said I was almost finished with it...until...I SNEEZED! His heart rate dropped dramaticly. They stop the test and said "If he can't handle a sneeze he won't handle labor. You are going to have to have an emergency C-section in an hour." WOOH! I was excited because it was all new to me. After awhile I wasn't looking forward to it because I never had major surgery before. My nurses could get my IV in so I had about 20 holes in each of my arms. That was the worst pain I had through the whole process was the IV. And an elephant sitting on my chest while in surgery. They have to push down on your uterus and it's really uncomfortable. Awesome moment was the dude who gave me my spinal deal, standing behind me while I'm on the table saying "Are you okay?" I said "Yeah..." He replied "Good, because they just made the cut." Oh....sweet. Haha. Skipping to later, my son had to stay at that hospital and I had to ride with my mom 5 hours back home to finish school. Then I got to go back, and he was doing great until the day I was suppose to take him home they put him on oxygen. But he is so healthy now! And he got to attend Mommy's graduation. The END!
