Harlequin Rose's Birth Story
Submitted by gamergirl42
I had been with my boyfriend (now ex-boyfriend) for three years before I became pregnant. I first realized I was pregnant when we were supposed to go to his mom's for the week, but I was too sick to travel and he was telling her over the phone that I wasn't feeling well. I heard her over the phone ask him, "What is she pregnant?" He denied it, and my first thought was, "What a thing to ask." Then I thought, "Wait ... what if I am?" So I went out with my friend the next day and got a home pregnancy test, and lo and behold, it was positive.
Everyone seemed excited about it and things went smoothly for a while. Then when I was about five months along, my boyfriend decided that he was tired of us living with our roommates. Sure, we were going to need to find a new place to live with the baby, but he decided that we were going to go live with his father three hours away for a while and find a place there. I went along with it at first but found it very stressful having no support from family or friends and always getting the cold shoulder from his father.
When I was six months along, he decided that he didn't love me anymore and kicked me out. I wasn't sure as to where I could go then or who I could turn to for help. Things with my parents hadn't been good for a while, and my friends were already squeezed tight in the apartment.
After spending a night in my car, I wound up calling my parents after all, and they let me move back in with them. Little did I know though my parents were on the verge of losing their own house, and a week after my daughter was born, we had to move.
My doctor, not knowing when I was due exactly, gave me several due dates. The first he guessed at was the 12th of March. Then the second, and after that the eighth, and then finally the 19th. So my due date was anywhere between the second and 19th of March.
On the 14th of March, I went into labor. And after checking into the hospital, I found out an hour later that it was just false labor and I could go home. At that point I was ready for my baby to come out, I was tired of being pregnant, and was disappointed that it wasn't real labor. Later on that day my brother and his friend called me saying that they had a bet going on about when I would have her. Apparently my brother had the 17th and wanted me to try for that day. I, of course, didn't want him to win the bet. So, when I actually did go into labor on the 17th, I made sure my brother and his friend were the last to know.
I hadn't gotten any sleep the night before and at six in the morning, I was checked into the hospital. At about nine, the anesthesiologist came in to give me an epidural, only to find out that he couldn't. I had a zit on my back right where he was wanting to stick the needle and was afraid to do it because it might introduce an infection into my spine. Two other doctors came to have a look and they all agreed that it would be too great of a risk to do it. So after finding out I wasn't getting the epidural that I wanted, I decided to give the Jacuzzi a try. I was dilated to 4 cm when I first got in, and after spending about 45 minutes in the Jacuzzi, I had managed to dilate to 9 1/2 cm, and I was given the OK to push! And after three hours of pushing, little Harlequin Rose was born. She weighed in at 8 lbs. 4 oz. and was 20 inches long.
