Adelyn's Birth Story
Submitted by xxtanya_
I was 19 when I found out I was pregnant. I had been dating my boyfriend just three months when I found out I was pregnant on July 9, 2010. Unfortunately, my boyfriend is in the military and was on a summer tasking for the entire summer, 10 hours away, hurray. ...
The friend I was with the night I found out was ready to take me for an abortion right then and there, but no way. My boyfriend came home that night for a couple of hours, we talked and then he had to leave again. He got back in the beginning of September. I was due March 20, 2011. My due date had come and gone ... on the 23rd my doctor checked to see how far dilated I was but never told me how far I was, but he said he could feel her head. That night I believe I lost my mucus plug, and all night I had mild cramping, which I know now were tiny contractions. The next morning, on the 24th, I went into the hospital to be induced.
They started my Pitocin at 11 AM. I had small contractions but nothing bad. Around 12:30 PM, my doctor came in and broke my water, and that's when it started to get intense. I went into the hydrotherapy tub, but because I had to be on the monitor, I couldn't get my arms wet and I was cold the entire time. However, I believe it softened everything up. I was given a morphine/gravol needle that was SUPPOSED to take the edge off ... but didn't. It just made me tired. Around 5:30, my doctor came in, checked me and said I was ready for my epidural.
Unfortunately the anesthesiologist was in surgery so I didn't get my epidural until a little after 8 PM. I walked a lot, which seemed to help. After I got my epidural, I slept for a couple of hours. At around 10, the nurse came and checked me, not thinking I'd be ready, but I was. I pushed for about 25 minutes and my daughter was born at 10:50 PM on March 24, 2011. She was 6 lbs. 3 oz., 19 inches long, happy and healthy.
I can still hardly believe that I did it! Childbirth was one of my biggest fears. I'm so proud of myself! haha :)
