Vitamin Supplements for Breastfeeding Babies

Does breastfeeding baby need supplements?

The American Academy of Pediatrics currently recommends that you give your baby a vitamin D and a B12 supplement if he's exclusively breastfed or drinks less than 17 ounces per day of fortified formula.

The easiest way to ensure appropriate amounts of both is to administer a daily dose of over-the-counter infant drops containing multivitamins and iron. Check with your baby's doctor for a specific recommendation for the type and dose.
