I'm Breastfeeding, but I Want My Boobs Back!

I'm almost done breastfeeding after 13 months! I am proud that I made it past the year mark, but I'm also so excited to have my boobs back. Yes, I know they are not the same boobs I went into the pregnancy and breastfeeding adventure with, but they are mine again.

I loved breastfeeding my daughter. There were definitely some ups and downs—the pain; a year without one full night of sleep; the joy of bonding with my daughter; and, oddly enough, the abuse my boobs took at her hands. Let's just put it this way: My daughter is a very aggressive eater. She loves her food, which also means she loves my boobs. For the past several months, my boobs have been covered in little scratches from my daughter grasping onto and burying her face into my chest.

Apparently, this is the most effective way to breastfeed. My boobs have been repeatedly smacked when they empty of milk and my daughter wants more. The elasticity of my skin has been tested as my breasts have been pulled into incredible shapes while my daughter tries to eat and simultaneously look at whatever her dad is doing. They have been exposed to the world as my daughter proudly displays them to everyone as she eats. The girls need a break from the abuse!

I never thought I would get possessive of my boobs. But after a year, it's time to have them back. I never thought putting on a bra would be exciting. Needless to say, I'm dying to put on a bra that isn't designed to open for easy access and is actually pretty. It might be a mammoth, industrial-sized bra with four hooks and some serious elastic so the girls can go back to where God intended them to be—but it isn't a nursing bra. I feel like a little piece of me is back from the very demanding and labor-intensive time of pregnancy and infancy. I know it's silly, but getting my boobs back has given me back a little sanity and freedom from the all-encompassing baby stage.
