Baby Care: Bathing a Baby
How do I bathe my baby?
During baby's first few days and weeks—until his umbilical cord stump falls off—only sponge baths with a lukewarm, moistened washcloth are recommended for proper baby care. Wash his face and hands frequently and thoroughly clean his bottom after each diaper change.
When you do starting bathing baby in a bathtub, daily baths aren't necessary or even recommended (they can dry out baby's delicate skin). Every other day or so will keep baby smelling sweet.
