11 Month Old Baby Development: Cruising
If the term "cruising" conjures up Friday nights riding around in the parking lot of the mall with your junior-year boyfriend, it's time to rethink that. Your mini-explorer is about to teach you what cruising really is as he holds onto the couch, your leg and everything in between to make his way around your living room on his own two feet!
What You're Thinking: "We have lift-off! Where's the camera?!"
Baby Milestones
- Some babies may be crawling really well by now but, again, lots of babies just get up one day and start walking without ever having crawled. If yours is not crawling, don't worry. Think of it this way: You can put off scrubbing stains out of the knees of pants for just a little bit longer!
- Your baby might be walking while holding on to furniture or the edge of the crib at this point. He's a step closer to independent walking. (And you're a step closer to running after him!)
- This is a nice time to introduce a walking toy to get your cruiser really moving. If you're spending time outdoors, bubble blowers or baby lawn mowers are fun (and loud enough to keep him happy). Indoors, try a baby vacuum or a ride-on/walking toy.
- Your baby is probably holding his cup and drinking from it all on his own by now. With this independence comes curiosity in the form of "Hmm ... what happens if I throw this cup across the room?" And we all know the answer to that one: Mom or Dad makes a mad dash for the dishrag ... and baby cracks up.
Mommy Milestones
- You survived colic.
- You survived months of spit-up.
- You survived worrying about tummy time.
- You survived wearing fourth-trimester clothing.
- You survived breastfeeding ... in public.
- You survived immunizations and baby's first fever.
- You survived having to tell strangers your baby's gender. (OK, that one is ongoing. ... Don't people notice the big pink bow in the hair? Or the onesie that says "Mommy's favorite boy?" Geez!)
