Baby Physical Development: Newborn Standing, Kicking
My baby wants to stand, walk and kick at only a few months old. Is this OK?
The changes that occur at around 2 months of age during a baby's physical development are quite remarkable. After weeks of dealing with someone who just needs to eat and sleep, your baby can do things. And at this age, parents really see their child's personality begin to emerge, including which baby will be a future speed demon or athlete. These behaviors are all very normal and should be encouraged. Moving her limbs and pushing against things help your baby develop muscle strength and coordination. As long as you are providing plenty of trunk support by holding your baby under her arms, standing and "walking" are great exercise. In fact, the "walking reflex" is one of the primitive reflexes of newborns. So enjoy these early games and exercise sessions with your rapidly growing baby.
