Baby Physical Development: The Rooting Reflex
All babies are born with reflexes, involuntary movements that help them thrive and survive.
The rooting reflex may be the most important of your baby's reflexes, as it helps him to locate nourishment, i.e., the boob or bottle. The reflex can be initiated by stroking the corner of your baby's mouth. He will turn toward the source in an attempt to find food. The rooting reflex subsides at around 4 months as your baby becomes better at reaching and his movements are more voluntary so he can grab that boob or bottle!
