Baby Play Activities: "Cooking" in the Kitchen

If your baby is the curious sort, like mine is, make cooking time into playtime by setting your baby in her high chair in the kitchen.
Give her a plastic bowl and colander and a spoon to play with. Let her smell the herb or spice you're about to put in the sauce, name fruits and vegetables, point out shapes or colors, or generally narrate what you're doing. Unless your baby is the sort that just has to be held 24/7, your time in the kitchen can be just as much a fun bonding experience as playtime.
