Dealing With Spit-Up

Many babies spit up after they eat. Here are some tips to help you deal with it.

Minimize spitting up by trying the following:
  • feed your baby before he becomes hysterical with hunger.
  • keep mealtimes calm and comfortable for your baby, with as few distractions as possible.
  • burp baby throughout the feeding, rather than just at the end.
  • be sure the hole in a bottle's nipple isn't too large to prevent gulping or too small, to cause baby to swallow air.
Spitting up usually isn't something to worry about unless your baby isn't thriving, has trouble breathing, a chronic cough or is very fussy, in which case, talk to your doc.
