Baby Feeding: Choosing a High Chair

It's never long before baby's feeding involves more mess than milk. So when solids are just around the corner, it's time to start thinking about that baby staple: the high chair.

You can opt for a primary-colored plastic version featuring cartoon characters prancing about or a sleek modern wooden seat that's the prettiest piece of furniture in the house.

Either way, there are a few things to consider:

Safety. Make sure there's a waist strap, a crotch strap and look for the Juvenile Products Manufacturing Association Certification Seal.

Wheels. It's easier if you can roll it (just make sure the wheels lock).

Height adjustment. It's all about options. Sometimes you'll want to stand; sometimes you'll want to sit. A stable and easy-to-use height adjustment gives you a choice.

Comfy cushion. Since you can't test it yourself, just make sure the seat has a soft cushion that's washable. Sure the diaper provides padding, but your baby will need more for a comfortable feeding!

Cleanability. Trust us, month old, dried on peas, carrots and sweet potatoes are best left to a cleaning professional (a.k.a. a full-blast garden hose in the backyard).

Before you know it, your baby will be sitting pretty in the best seat in the house.
