Newborn Baby Care for Twins

Help! I'm having twins! How am I ever going to be able to take care of two infants?

It's all relative. Newborn baby care is a daunting task—even when you have just one. Adding a second baby (or more) can be downright intimidating. It is important to keep in mind that most of us are not trained for parenthood, so it is understandable that we would face that challenge with more than a little trepidation. Joining a "parents of multiples" support organization can be a big help.

I joined my local group right before my first set of twins were born in order to take advantage of their great gently used clothing and equipment sale. I quickly learned what an awesome resource the group is in many other ways.

My group provides educational meetings for "first year" parents, playgroups, socials, direct support (such as meal deliveries) and even parenting classes. The most valuable resource they provided to me was their active Web site community (a free resource through Bigtent.com), where I could ask questions and receive sage advice from more experienced moms of multiples. The forums are filled with moms asking advice on topics like how to feed two in tandem, how to potty-train two at once and what travel discounts exist for families with multiples.

Looking back now, I realize that I didn't need to worry about how I would survive it—with the power of hundreds of multiples families behind me, I had all the newborn baby care expertise I needed.
