Babyproofing Your Living Room
When it comes to babyproofing: the living room and/or family room is a big one. It's your lounge, your TV room, your area for entertaining and, most likely, your playroom. Talk about multitasking!

Steer clear of toys that feature drawstrings and other dangling strings that are any longer than 7 inches. If your child inherited any such toys from an older sib, cousin, or friend, take your scissors to any offending strings now.
Ensure that any toys that require batteries have child-safe battery compartments. Ones that can only be opened with a screwdriver.
Make sure that balloons are kept out of your baby's reach and that any broken balloon pieces make it to the trash immediately.
Position floor lamps so they're out of your baby's reach or pack them away entirely.
Place table lamps towards the back of the table and wrap the cord around the table leg of added stability.
Use a fireplace pad on your hearth, and keep your child as far away from the fireplace as possible while it's being used.
Consider Cushiony Jumbo Corner Guards or an Expandable Table Edge Bumper for sharp coffee table corners or end table edges. If your inner interior decorator shudders at the though, you might want to move the coffee table into storage for a while.
