Child Car Safety
Is it time for your preschooler to graduate from a traditional harnessed car seat to a booster? When can your elementary school-age kid ride in the front seat? Wondering about the height and weight requirements for putting your kid in a car booster seat? Here's the child car safety info you need to know!
- Generally, once your kid weighs more than 40 pounds (check the recommendations that came with the car seat), he can move to a booster car seat with either its own five-point harness or one that is used with your car's lap and shoulder belt. (If he's not yet 40 pounds, you must follow the Child Car Safety for Toddlers and Preschoolers.
- Children should use a booster seat until they are about 4'9" or taller.
- The safest place for kids of all ages is in the backseat until they are both 13 years of age and weigh at least 100 pounds.
Be sure to follow the general Car Safety Tips for children of all ages, too!
