Is it safe for kids to eat raw cookie dough?

Raw cookie dough made with raw eggs is not a safe food for kids to eat. Raw eggs are potentially hazardous because they can serve as sources of harmful bacteria, including salmonella, which can cause serious illness.

However, cookie dough that is made safely with pasteurized eggs or pasteurized liquid egg products can safely be consumed raw. Many commercially available cookie dough products are made with these ingredients.
